Welcome to the Writing Center!
Welcome, new tutor! We’re so excited for you to begin working with us. We’ve designed a step-by-step onboarding process to support your development in being a great peer writing tutor and great employee.
As a new Writing Center staff member, your first scheduled shift on the WCOnline schedule is when you start training and learning the details of working as a peer tutor at the Writing Center.
- For the first hour of your first shift, you’ll meet with a returning tutor who will welcome you to the Writing Center, give you an office tour, talk you through the platforms we use daily, and answer any initial questions you may have.
- If you also work at the other campus location of the Writing Center, you will also be blocked off during your first half hour of your first shift there to get an office tour of that location.
During the 2-4 week onboarding process (depending on how quickly one progresses through all the steps), you will
- connect with your mentor
- interview returning staff members to find out more about working at the Writing Center
- get first-hand experiences with appointment procedures and best practices through collaborative observations of and with returning tutors
