During your first shift or two, take time to get to know some of your fellow tutors. The interview assignment will allow you to have productive conversations with people who have experience working at the Writing Center.

Assignment Details
The interview assignment will help you get to know your fellow tutors and a chance to hear firsthand what working at the Writing Center is like 😃
- Interview at least 2 returning tutors
- For your interviews, make a 30-minute face-to-face or online realtime appointment on WCOnline with a returning tutor and talk to them in the office or send a Slack DM to them before your appointment to introduce yourself and let them know you’ll be interviewing them
- If you would like help identifying returning tutors who may be available for an interview, talk with the receptionist
- Spend roughly 30 minutes on each interview and take notes
- We've provided a list of questions that you can use, or you can create your own questions (or both, of course); Before each interview, prioritize the questions you really want answered because you may not get to all of them
- Before you begin each interview, find out the interviewee’s name, field(s) of study, and role(s) at the Writing Center
- Write notes AND a 1-2 paragraph reflection about what you learned from each interview
- Submit your notes and reflection following your course instructor’s requirements

- Thinking back to when you started, what are the 3 most important things that you think a new tutor should know?
- Is there an aspect of working at the Writing Center that you wish you had known during your first few weeks?
- How long have you worked here? How has your role at the Writing Center changed since you first started?
- What are your favorite aspects of working at the Writing Center?
- What is a typical week at the Writing Center like for you?
- Are you a part of any Writing Center teams? If so, which teams and what is your role?
- Describe your best appointment. What made it so memorable? Have you incorporated what went well in this appointment into other appointments?
