Welcome to the office!

The Loop Writing Center is located on the 10th floor of the DePaul Center, room 10001, inside of the Loop Library.

When you walk into the office you are not only greeted by our lovely and welcoming staff, but our vibrant office space as well. Walk through this office tour to understand how we use our Loop office space.

While the office is staffed by a receptionist during all open hours, tutors also have swipe access to our front doors; use your DePaul ID (card or digital version) to unlock the door if needed.

The Reception Desk

The first thing writers and tutors are greeted with when they enter the Writing Center is the reception desk where a receptionist will always be scheduled and ready to help you. Receptionists help keep the Writing Center running smoothly and are there to assist you with any questions or concerns that you encounter during your shift.

As a tutor, this desk is where you will check in for work at the beginning of your shift and check out at the end. To check in, please say hi to the receptionist and introduce yourself so that the receptionist is aware that you are present for your shift. When you leave at the end of your shift, check out by saying goodbye so that the receptionist knows you are no longer in the office.

At the reception desk, you can also find a few laptops and headphones available for your use during shifts. You can also find extra supplies, such as paper, pens, even candy!

The Couches

Just to the right of the entrance, you will find benches where writers are invited to sit while waiting for their appointments. As long as there’s plenty of space for writers to wait, tutors can also spend time here while working. We ask that you be ready to move if needed to make space for writers and that the volume be kept to a minimum to ensure that the Writing Center space remains a conducive work environment for all.

Tutoring/Collaborative Space

Beyond the benches, you are greeted with a large open room filled with tables, rolling chairs, a couch, and a few plush chairs. The tables are for individual or collaborative work. All face-to-face appointments happen in the collaborative space; tutors can also use this space to conduct online realtime or written feedback appointments. This space may also be used for group work among tutors, such as Writing Fellows meetings.

Please keep in mind this is a collaborative work space that we share with writers and Writing Center staff, so be mindful of what you say and how loud you are.

This space also offers the following:
