Welcome to the office!
The Lincoln Park Campus Writing Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Schmitt Academic Center, room 212.
When you walk into the office you are not only greeted by our lovely and welcoming staff, but our vibrant office space as well. Walk through this office tour to understand how we use our Lincoln Park office space.
Tutoring/Collaborative Space
To the left when you enter the Writing Center, you are greeted with a large open room filled with tables, rolling chairs, and couches. The tables are for individual or collaborative work. All face-to-face appointments happen in the collaborative space; tutors can also use this space to conduct online realtime or written feedback appointments. This space is also used for group work among tutors, such as Writing Fellows meetings.
Please keep in mind this is a collaborative work space that we share with writers and Writing Center staff, so be mindful of what you say and how loud you are.
This space also offers the following:
- Resource caddies: Each table in the tutoring space has a caddy of resources—paper, pens/pencils/highlighters, fidgets, bookmarks—available for your use with writers during appointments.
- Resource cart: Additional resources like small whiteboards, markers, erasers, and more fidgets can be found on the rolling cart within the tutoring space.
- Supply closet: Directly next to the entry door, along the wall in the collaborative space, you will find the supply closet. This is the home for all Writing Center craft related items. Feel free to grab what you need from here! Feel free to use the chalkboard and whiteboard doors of the closets as well as the magnets for appointments or fun, creative messages.
- Outreach Corner: At the end of the Supply Closet is a space reserved for the Outreach Team. Use of materials in the Outreach Corner are for Outreach team members only.
- Core Beliefs: Draw inspiration during your shifts from the colorful posters outlining our Core Beliefs that are displayed along the front wall cabinets.
- Screen & Projector: The display screen is used for events, such as Writers Guild meetings or professional development workshops. The screen moves up and down using the switch on the wall to the left of the screen. Laptops can be connected to the projector through Apple AirPlay or HDMI.
- Resource Shelf: Also housed in the collaborative space is a bookshelf filled with resources, manuals, and other books. Here tutors can find different style guides and resource books to use during appointments and review during down time.
