As the Outreach Student Manager, you work closely with Outreach Coordinator Jen Finstrom to co-lead the Outreach team as well as collaboratively coordinate all aspects of the Peer Tutor & Mentor Summit. Co-leading the team includes running meetings, checking in with small working groups, planning regular quarterly events like open houses, and scheduling promotional tables for various events and partnerships.
In addition to the role-specific work described above, you support other student managers in their responsibilities, including facilitation of Tutor Talk and may work as a Student Manager on Call (SMOC) during regular Writing Center open hours each quarter.
✨ Principal Duties & Responsibilities
As a Student Manager, duties and responsibilities ebb and flow throughout each quarter and over the course of an academic year. We are committed to making sure your duties and responsibilities are realistic and manageable.
Co-lead the Outreach Team
- Create meeting agendas with the Outreach Coordinator.
- Collaborate with GA(s) working with the Outreach team and other Student Managers as needed
- Meet weekly with Outreach Coordinator and any other Outreach leadership
- Collaboratively lead the weekly meetings
- Schedule and hold quarterly check-ins with team members to assess how their work with Outreach is going
Manage logistics and communications for Outreach events
- Schedule staffing for events and fairs (like Vinny Fest, Banned Books Week, Transfer Student Fairs, etc. ) by communicating with the team regarding what is needed, helping to shift team members’ hours on WCOnline where applicable.
- Plan recurring events like quarterly Open Houses and provide staffing for those events from the team (and occasionally non-team members on staff)
- Provide training on tabling to the team and also to non-team members doing Outreach
- Request promotional tables where applicable (some request forms are only accessible by the Outreach Coordinator)
- Summer Only: Staff frequently repeating Orientation fairs on campus to the extent possible
- If needed, schedule staffing and communicate with summer staff about set-up and best practices
