As the Outreach & Marketing student manager, you work closely with Outreach & Marketing coordinator Jen Finstrom to co-lead the Outreach team, as well as collaboratively coordinate promotion and marketing for the Writing Center (both in-person and online) and co-manage partnerships at the University and, in a couple of cases, the community as well.
In addition to the role-specific work described in greater detail below, you support other student managers in their responsibilities, including facilitation of Tutor Talk and may work as a Student Manager on Call (SMOC) during regular Writing Center open hours each quarter.
✨ Principal Duties & Responsibilities
As a Student Manager, duties and responsibilities ebb and flow throughout each quarter and over the course of an academic year. We are committed to making sure your duties and responsibilities are realistic and manageable.
Co-lead the Outreach Team
- Meet weekly with the Outreach & Marketing coordinator to determine any goals and needs for Outreach
- Collaboratively lead the weekly meetings
- Create team meeting agendas and/or slides
- Coordinate and support small groups working on Outreach-related projects
- Schedule and hold quarterly check-ins with team members to assess how their work with Outreach is going
- Collaborate with SL(s) and other Student Managers as needed for Outreach events (an example of this is coordinating with the Writing Groups SL regarding promotion for Writing Groups)
Collaborate on Writing Center Marketing
- In-Person
- Tabling
- Provide training on tabling to the team and also to non-team members staffing tables
- Request promotional tables where applicable (some request forms are only accessible by the Outreach & Marketing coordinator)
- Summer Only: Staff frequently repeating Orientation fairs on campus to the extent possible, and if needed, schedule staffing and communicate with summer staff about set-up and best practices
- In-Class Presentations
- Schedule and coordinate in-class presentations on Writing Center services when requested by an instructor, adapting materials and training tutors where needed
- Online/Social Media
- Co-manage Writing Center social media accounts, with both SM and coordinator taking part in the below
- Post content appropriate for each platform
- Target and engage with related accounts (DePaul academic departments & student organizations) by following, sharing posts, responding to messages etc.
- Brainstorm timely social media series (Writing Center pets, writing tips, Writing Center staff story takeovers, etc.)
- Coordinate with Writing Center tutors who are creating content (i.e., for TikTok)
- Analyze metrics to adjust posts and increase engagement
- Create, delegate, or approve Writing Center-branded content and graphics using the Writing Center's Canva account
- Support Outreach & Marketing coordinator with drafting of mass emails sent when we open, at midterms, etc.
Co-manage Partnerships and Support Logistics
- Schedule staffing for events and collaborations (like Global Coffee Hour, Vinny Fest, Brains & Bagels, etc.) by communicating with the team/other tutors and leading planning of activities as needed
