Our attendance, absence, late arrival, and early departure policies make our expectations for you as an employee as clear as possible. These policies define certain standards of professionalism and help us maintain that professionalism across a wide range of individual staff members. These policies hold us all to a standard that maintains the integrity of our department.
If you are late to a shift or if you leave early without permission, be advised that the receptionist will inform Katie Brown, even for those infractions that only involve a matter of minutes.
We ask receptionists to report these late arrivals or early departures so that we can hold each tutor to the same standards and work with anyone who may need to have their regular work shift permanently changed to start or end later.
(revised as of 9/13/25; note added 2/6/26)
Note: regardless of whether a schedule change is requested prior to or within the 72-hour window, tutors are not permitted to schedule make-up hours in the event that they need to miss a shift except in very rare exceptions. If you have questions about this policy, please contact Katie Brown.
Writing Center staff who do not adhere to these policies may be placed on progressive discipline.
